Eligibility

To be eligible for submitting a Schengen visa application, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  2. If the applicant holds a short-stay visa for the UK (C-type visa), they must apply for a Schengen visa from their country of residence.

Documents Required

General Information:

British citizens do not need a visa for transit through any of the European Union’s Schengen Member States, if the total duration of their transits does not exceed 90 days (about 3 months) within 180 days (about 6 months).

Similarly, individuals who are exempt from obtaining a visa to visit Germany also do not need one for transit through the country. This is commonly called “transit privileges” and applies to most foreign travelers. If you are transiting through a German airport and remain within the International Airport Area, and your destination is outside the Schengen area, you do not require a transit visa. However, if for any reason you need to enter the Schengen area during your transit, such as changing terminals, or if your destination is within the Schengen area, you may need to obtain a C visa.

A. STANDARD DOCUMENTATION FOR SCHENGEN VISA APPLICATION

  1. Visa application form (original)
  2. Original Passport and Photocopy

– The passport must be signed and have at least two blank pages for visa purposes.
– The passport must be valid for a minimum of 90 days (about 3 months) beyond the return date of the trip to the Schengen Area.
– The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years on the day of departure from the Schengen Area.
– While an extended passport may still be valid, a passport that is older than 10 years on the return date of the trip to the Schengen Area is no longer acceptable. In such cases, the customer must first apply for a new passport.

  1. UK Residence Permit and Photocopy (front and back)

The document required for travel to Schengen member states can either be a biometric card (BRP) or an endorsement in the passport. This document must remain valid for at least one month after the trip’s planned end date. Please note that a C-type visitor visa will not be accepted.

If your BRP is set to expire on 31 December 2024, we kindly request that you submit the UKVI outcome letter which confirms the duration of your permission to stay in the UK. Additionally, please provide the share code for either your “right to work” or “Prove your immigration status” documentation.

Biometric Passport-Sized Photograph:

35 x 45 mm, no older than three months, on white or off-white background. Digitally altered passport photos cannot be accepted.

Confirmed return airline/ferry/train ticket:
– The applicant’s name and travel dates must be mentioned on the confirmed return travel tickets.
– It is important to note that filing a complete application does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. Therefore, it is advisable to consider booking a fully refundable ticket when making travel arrangements.

Proof of address in the UK: You may submit any of the following documents, dated within the past month: a council tax bill, utility bill, bank statement, pension certificate, or any similar document.

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS FOR MINORS

Application Form: Separately filled application form for each minor.

Applications must be signed by both parents or all guardians: If one parent or guardian is unable to sign, please furnish additional information. If sole custody has been granted to one parent, please submit supporting documentation.

Please provide the original passports of both parents, along with a copy or certified copy of the biodata page from each passport.

To ensure a smooth process, we kindly request the submission of the original birth certificate for each child, along with a copy. If the birth certificate was issued outside the European Union and is not in English, German, Spanish, or French, it must be translated by a certified translator.

“United Kingdom school certificate, if applicable”

Important Travel Notice for Unaccompanied Minors:

It is of utmost importance that unaccompanied minors have a declaration or letter of consent signed by both parents. This document should authorize the minor to travel and stay within the territory of the Schengen member states. Additionally, it should appoint a responsible person who will ensure their well-being during the journey.

Photo Specification

Please submit one current color portrait of yourself that is no older than six months that satisfies the conditions listed below:

  • Captured on a light background (white or off-white) to make features stand out and contrast with the background.
  • Face-focused and of high clarity
  • Full face: not grinning, no sunglasses, no hats or other head coverings, unless the applicant is wearing them due to his or her ethnicity or religion.
  • Printed from a camera print on standard photographic paper.
  • The photo that is adhered to the visa application form

The visa application will be deemed incomplete if the submitted photos don’t fulfill these specifications (see examples here), and the applicant will be asked to take fresh pictures in the photo booth at the visa application center.

Application Form

To apply for a visa, applicants must complete an online visa application form known as the Visa Application Form (VAF). It is important to note that the application form cannot be filled out by hand.

To begin the application process, each applicant must duly complete and print the online Schengen visa application form by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Schengen Visa Application form link provided in PDF format.
  2. Fill out the online visa application form accurately, ensuring that the information matches the details on your passport.
  3. Go to the Menu bar and select “File.”
  4. Choose the “Print” option and confirm the printing process.

Once the online Schengen visa application form has been printed, the applicant must proceed with the remaining steps:

  1. Sign the completed visa application form in the designated places, specifically the first signature at number 37 and the second signature right below the disclaimer at the end of the VAF.
  2. On the day of your appointment, bring the signed visa application form along with the necessary supporting documents.

It is important to emphasize that hand-filled applications will no longer be accepted at the visa application center. Therefore, it is crucial to schedule an appointment and adhere to the online application process.

Processing Time

Customers are advised to submit their Schengen visa applications up to six months before their intended travel date to the Schengen Area.

Please take note of the following:

The processing time for applications starts only upon the Embassy receiving the required documents.

To ensure a smooth process, applications must be submitted at least 15 calendar days before the intended travel date (as mentioned above) and can be submitted up to six months in advance. Failure to adhere to these deadlines may result in the Embassy deeming your application inadmissible. In such cases, your visa application will not be processed, and your passport will be promptly returned to you.

On average, the visa processing time is 15 calendar days. However, in certain instances where additional scrutiny of the application is necessary and/or when it is referred to the German Immigration Service, this period may be extended up to the requirement.
