Italy Minors Visa

£99.00£850.00

Description

Every applicant, including children and infants, must personally submit their Schengen visa application on their scheduled appointment date. Appointments can be booked online through the “Schedule an Appointment” section on our website.

For non-EU citizens who are unsure about whether they need a Schengen visa to travel to the Schengen Area, please click on “Do I need a visa?” to find out.

Minors are individuals under the age of 18 when submitting a Schengen visa application. This includes those applying for a Tourist, Visitor Family/Friends, EEA/EU and Swiss national family member, or Airport Transit visa. Therefore, each minor must provide the following additional documents:

  1. Child’s unabridged/full birth certificate, which shows the names of both biological parents.
  2. Written consent (signed and dated) from both the mother and father mentioned on the child’s birth certificate.
  3. Copy of both parents’ passport bio page and signature page, if the signature is not on the bio page.
  4. In the case of divorce or the death of one parent, a court order confirming sole custody or the deceased parent’s certificate, respectively.
  5. If a guardian has been appointed by the parents, a guardianship letter and a copy of the guardian’s passport bio page and signature page, if the signature is not on the bio page.

It is important to note that due to European legislation regarding the protection of children/minors, minors who do not provide all the required documents may not be granted a Schengen visa.

The applicable visa fee for minors varies based on three age groups:

  1. Minors under 6 years old: Gratis (free of charge)
  2. Minors aged 6 to 11 years old: Reduced visa fee
  3. Minors aged 12 years old and above: Full visa fee

Eligibility:

To be eligible to submit a Schengen visa application, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Possess a valid passport or travel document.
  2. Hold a valid UK residence permit. If the applicant holds a short stay visa for the UK (C type visa), they must apply for a Schengen visa from their country of residence.
  3. Apply for a short stay visa for purposes such as tourism (including minors), visiting family or friends, business, being a family member of an EEA/EU or Swiss national, or airport transit.

Documents Required

The list of documents provided below is not exhaustive, and the applicant may be asked to provide additional information or documents if requested by the Mission.

All documents must be printed out and presented in their original form, along with a photocopy where necessary. It is essential for applicants to appear in person. The following documents must be provided:

  1. Duly completed application form [click here]
  2. Valid passport or travel document (original plus one photocopy), which should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date of your trip from Italy and have at least two blank pages. The passport will be retained and returned with the visa, if approved.
  3. Valid UK Residence Permit (original plus one photocopy), which should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the return date of your trip in Italy.
  4. Passport-style photo with a full front view and a white background, not older than 6 months.
  5. Original full birth certificate (plus one photocopy).

Please note the following:

  • Certificates older than six months will NOT be accepted.
  • Certificates issued by a foreign authority other than the U.K. MUST be translated into English or Italian and legalized by the Italian Consular Office of the issuing country OR by the Consular Authority in the U.K. of the issuing country.
  • Certificates issued by one of the Schengen countries will only be accepted if they are multilingual. Otherwise, please refer to the second note.

Please ensure that written consent is obtained from both parents, granting permission for the travel and assuming financial responsibility for the entire trip. It is important to note the following:

  • If one or both parents are unable to appear in person on the application day, a parental consent must be notarized by a UK notary.
  • If the parents reside abroad, the consent must be notarized by the Italian Consulate in their country of residence. For more information, please visit the following website: [insert website link].
  • This requirement also applies when parents living abroad appoint a guardian.
  • A photocopy of both parents’ passports must be provided.
  • A recent original school attendance letter, signed by the Headmaster and addressed to the Italian Consulate in London, is required. The letter should not be older than one month.

In regards to travel tickets, please take note of the following:

  • If traveling by plane, train, or bus, the ticket must be printed directly from the airline, trainline, or bus operator. The ticket should clearly display the passenger’s name, travel dates, origin and destination, and the amount paid.
  • If traveling by car, ferry tickets or Eurotunnel tickets are required. Additionally, please provide the original and photocopy of the car registration, car insurance, and driving license. If renting a car, the same documentation is required, along with the car rental documents.
  • If traveling between multiple Schengen countries, travel tickets are mandatory for each border crossing.
If utilizing the services of third-party travel agencies, please note that they will only be accepted if they are based in the UK or one of the Schengen countries. Travel tickets must always be issued directly by the airline, trainline, or bus operator. Any other documents will not be considered.
  • To apply for a hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Italy, please ensure that you have all the necessary documents. If you require a template for the invitation letter, you can find it by clicking here.
  • The invitation letter should be addressed to the Italian Consulate, dated, and signed by your host. Additionally, please include a photocopy of your host’s ID or passport, ensuring that the signature of the holder is visible on the photocopy. If your host in Italy is a non-EU citizen, please provide their Residence Permit in Italy, with the signature of the holder also visible.

It is mandatory to have travel insurance that is issued in the UK or one of the Schengen countries. The insurance should cover the entire duration of your stay and must include a letter from the insurance provider confirming coverage in all Schengen countries. The letter from your insurance company should state that you will be covered for medical expenses, hospitalization, and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros. If your current insurance company does not offer this coverage, you will need to obtain an international insurance policy.

You must also provide proof of economic means to cover the cost of your stay, as per the Ministry of Interior Directive 1.3.2000. This can be demonstrated through your last three months’ bank statements or a bank guarantee (fidejussione bancaria or polizza assicurativa) from Italy.

For citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, it is necessary to provide the full names of both parents, as stated on your birth certificate or Consular declaration.

Please note that your application will not be accepted if you fail to present all the required documents at the time of your appointment. In such cases, you will need to reschedule a new appointment.

Please be aware that the information provided above may be subject to change without prior notice. We cannot accept liability for any consequences resulting from such changes.

This consular administration possesses complete authority to assess and request supplementary documentation, if deemed necessary, in addition to the materials already submitted. Moreover, the applicant is hereby notified that the submission of all the required documentation does not ensure the issuance of any specific visa.

Application Form

In order to apply for a visa to Italy, every applicant is required to provide a signed printout of the Schengen visa application form (VAF).

To ensure a successful application, the applicant must diligently complete the visa application form as outlined below:

  1. Click on the “Application form” link provided.
    2. Fill out all the mandatory fields on the visa application form, which are marked with a red star (*).

Processing Time

The minimum processing time for a Schengen visa application is 15 calendar days. It can take up to 45 days (about 1 and a half months) for a Schengen Visa and up to 90 days (about 3 months) for a National Visa.

Applicants are allowed to apply up to 6 months before their travel dates, with the exception of seafarers who can apply no more than 9 months in advance of their intended travel date, while performing their duties.

It is important to note that applicants cannot apply if there are less than 15 days (about 2 weeks) remaining before their travel date. This means that there must be at least 15 calendar days between the application day and the travel date. Please be aware that this rule is separate from the processing time, which depends on the nationality of the applicants and, in the case of incomplete documents, begins only when the Consulate receives all the necessary documents, if they are deemed correct.

It is important to understand that the processing time cannot be expedited as the system is fully automated.

To avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is crucial that the visa application is complete and that all required documents are submitted according to the Mission’s requirements (see Documents Required for the different visa categories).

Applicants should also be aware that during busy seasons such as Easter, summer holidays (July and August), and Christmas, appointment slots (see Schedule an Appointment) are quickly filled as the Mission can only process a limited number of visa applications each day.

Furthermore, applicants should take into consideration that Mission closures and holidays (see Public Holidays/Closures) may extend the visa application processing time.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that all applicants:

  • Book their appointment as soon as they know their travel plans.
  • Ensure that their visa application documentation meets the Mission’s requirements.
  • Allow sufficient processing time for the Mission to review their application.

Applicants who submit their visa applications at our satellite centers in Manchester and Edinburgh should take into account an additional two working days to the minimum processing time. This is because their visa applications will initially be sent to the VFS London office, and then forwarded to the Mission in London the following day.

During the visa application process, the Mission may request additional information or documents, or even invite applicants for an interview. It is important to note that these requests may cause delays in the visa process, and applicants are responsible for any resulting consequences.
