Description
All applicants are required to personally submit their Schengen visa application on their scheduled appointment date.
Applicants who plan to visit the Schengen Area solely for tourism purposes, such as leisure, recreation, or sightseeing, and will arrange their own accommodation (hotel, hostel, B&B, camping, etc.), should apply as tourists.
Eligibility
To be eligible for submitting a Schengen visa application, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a valid travel document and a valid UK residence permit.
- If the applicant holds a short-stay visa for the UK (C-type visa), they must apply for a Schengen visa from their country of residence.
- Apply for a short-term Schengen visa to Swiss for purposes such as tourism (including minors), private visits, business, study/conference/seminar, EEA/EU and Swiss national family members, or other short-stay purposes.
Documents Required
To ensure compliance, all documents submitted must be in either English, French, Dutch, or German. Additionally, any foreign official documents must undergo legalization or possess an apostille, unless a specific exemption is outlined in a treaty.
STANDARD DOCUMENTATION FOR SCHENGEN VISA APPLICATION
Online Visa Application form (original)
Original Passport: Your original passport, along with a copy of the passport, including the signature page.
Please note that the passport should have been issued within the past ten years and be valid for at least three months beyond the requested visa’s validity. Ensure that you have at least two blank visa pages, which need not be consecutive.
Photograph: A recent passport-size photograph, taken within the last six months. The photograph should be undamaged and have a light and plain background.
UK Residence Permit/ BRP: Your original UK residence permit, accompanied by a copy. The residence permit should be valid for more than one month from the day you exit the Schengen area.
To support your Schengen visa application, you need to provide the following documentation:
Proof of current occupation:
Employed: Letter of Employment (dated, no more than one week old) should include the following details:
– Company letterhead
– Original wet signature (unless explicitly stated otherwise)
– Applicant’s full name and address
– Clear mention of the purpose and precise dates of the intended business travel to Switzerland
– Explicit indication of who will be responsible for covering the expenses associated with the trip.
Self-employed individuals: Must provide a letter from their accountant, banker, or solicitor, which should be dated and no more than one week old. The letter must include the following:
- Original wet signature (unless explicitly stated otherwise)
- Name and address of the applicant
- Detailed information about the nature of their self-employment or business ownership in the UK
- Bank account statements for the past three months
- Position of the signatory
- Self-assessment form edited by HM Revenue & Customs
Requirements for Domestic Employees:
– A valid original letter of employment
– A copy of the employer’s passport
– A copy of the work contract
For Students:
To confirm enrollment in a UK institution, please provide a document that is not more than one week old and includes the following:
– An original signature or wet stamp
– Applicant’s name and address
– Type of studies
– Number of lessons (hours) per week
For individuals receiving benefits or pension scheme:
Please submit an official letter that is not more than one month old.
Minors: (children below 18 years)
- a) Birth certificate: Please provide a valid birth certificate for verification purposes.
For minors traveling alone or with only one parent, exceptions can be made if one parent possesses sole custody or a residence order for the child.
In such cases, the following additional documents are required:
- b) Original passports of both parents and a certified copy of the biodata page of their passports.
- c) Proof of consent of parental authority or legal guardian.
- d) British school certificate: Please provide a valid British school certificate to further establish the minor’s identity.
In the case of sole custody, the following documents must be submitted:
- a) Birth certificate mentioning one parent: This document should indicate the parent with sole custody.
- b) Certificate of absent parent: If one parent is absent, please provide a certificate or documentation to support this.
- c) Court ruling: If there is a court ruling granting sole custody, please provide the relevant legal documentation.
Proof of Funds:
UK current personal and business bank statements for the last three months with a healthy closing balance not older than 7 days. Online statements are acceptable if they clearly display the account holder’s name and account details.
In case the applicant receives financial support from:
Spouse:
- A valid marriage certificate.
- Bank account statements of the spouse.
- A statement expressing the will to support the spouse.
Parents:
- Proof of family relationship, such as a birth certificate.
- Bank account statement of the parent(s).
- A statement expressing the parent’s will to support the applicant.
Proof of Travel: Transport documentation (with the applicant’s name as the passenger) should include the following:
– For travel by plane: a confirmed reservation with a booking reference number.
– For travel by train: a rail ticket.
– For travel by car: a ferry ticket, a copy of the driver’s driving license, and vehicle insurance.
Additionally, it is essential to provide the following:
A confirmed reservation for a return ticket to the UK or a confirmed overseas ticket for onward travel.
A signed letter of invitation from the host in Switzerland (written in an official Swiss language or English) including:
– Declaration of the host expressing their expectation of the applicant’s visit.
– Full contact details of both the host and the applicant, including full name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address, and nationality.
– The exact period of stay.
– Date of issue of the letter.
– Signature of the host.
In addition to the letter, please provide the following documents:
Copy of the host’s passport, including the photo and signature page. If the host is not Swiss, please also include a copy of their Swiss residence permit.
If the host works for an international organization, please include a copy of their carte de legitimation. Additionally, a letter from the employer, dated and signed, should be provided.
Travel Insurance (Comprehensive Medical Coverage)
A travel insurance that provides all-risk medical coverage. The insurance policy must clearly display the customer’s name and be valid throughout the entire Schengen Area. It must cover the entire duration of the customer’s intended stay in the Schengen Area. The minimum coverage for medical emergencies and repatriation, including the necessary clause, should amount to at least €30,000. If your bank provides coverage, kindly provide a recent letter, no more than one month old, confirming your insurance details.
Photo Specification
Please submit one current color portrait of yourself that is no older than six months that satisfies the conditions listed below:
- Captured on a light background (white or off-white) to make features stand out and contrast with the background.
- Face-focused and of high clarity
- Full face: not grinning, no sunglasses, no hats or other head coverings, unless the applicant is wearing them due to his or her ethnicity or religion.
- Printed from a camera print on standard photographic paper.
- The photo that is adhered to the visa application form
The visa application will be deemed incomplete if the submitted photos don’t fulfill these specifications (see examples here), and the applicant will be asked to take fresh pictures in the photo booth at the visa application center.
Processing Time
The processing time for visa applications is approximately 7 working days from the date of receipt. However, it is important to note that certain Schengen States may require consultation on visa applications submitted by citizens of specific countries to other Schengen States. In such cases, the processing time may extend up to 14 working days.
Please be aware that the visa cannot be issued on the same day that the application is submitted.
Appointment:
To submit the visa application, you can visit the Visa Application Centre TLS contact. It is advisable to do so between 6 months and 15 days (about 2 weeks) before your planned travel date. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure this deadline is met during the appointment process.
