  1. Proof of accommodation is a crucial requirement for individuals seeking entry into Bulgaria. This can be fulfilled by providing a hotel booking, confirmation from reputable accommodation platforms such as Airbnb or Booking.com, or any other reliable proof of accommodation. It is essential that the accommodation is guaranteed and confirmed under the applicant’s name. Additionally, individuals can also provide supporting documents such as a real estate title deed, lease agreement, or proof of ownership or lease of a boat.

For minors below the age of 18, there are additional requirements that need to be fulfilled.

  • A Declaration of Consent for Minor children, signed by both parents, is necessary.
  • Furthermore, the original and copy of both parents’ passports should be provided.
  • In cases where one of the parents is not present, a power of attorney or court order mentioning custody details must be submitted.
  • Lastly, an original copy of the child’s birth certificate, along with a certified translation if required, should be included.

It is important to note that holders of service and diplomatic passports are exempt from presenting proof of subsistence, accommodation, transportation, and insurance policy.

Upon arrival in Bulgaria, foreign nationals are required to declare the purpose of their stay and provide the address of their residence in writing. This can be done by filling in a registration form. However, citizens of the European Union member-states and countries in the Economic European Area are exempt from this requirement.

Furthermore, all foreign visitors should be aware that according to Bulgarian Law, they must contact the local police station within 48 hours (about 2 days) of their arrival and provide written notification of their address of stay. If staying in a hotel or private lodgings, it is the responsibility of the hotel management or host to register them at the local police station.

We kindly request all applicants to adhere to these requirements and regulations to ensure a smooth and compliant entry into Bulgaria.

Please download the Visa Application Form. The completed application form must be signed and submitted, accompanied by one recent photograph.

Processing Time

Visa applications can be submitted up to 3 months prior to your departure date.

The minimum processing time for a visa application is 15 calendar days.

Every application must receive clearance from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry in Sofia. If an application is submitted less than 15 calendar days before your travel date, we cannot guarantee a timely completion of the visa process.

To ensure a smooth visa application process, we recommend the following for all customers:

  • Book your appointment as soon as you know you’ll be traveling.
  • Make sure that your visa application’s documentation meets the requirements set by the Mission.
  • Allow enough processing time for the Mission to review your application.
  • Keep in mind that Mission closures and holidays may extend the processing time for your visa application.

If you are submitting your visa application at our satellite centers in Manchester, Cardiff, or Edinburgh, please add an additional 2 days to the minimum processing time. This is because your application will first be dispatched to the London office, and then forwarded to the Mission in London the following day.

During the visa application process, the Mission may request additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview. Please be aware that this may cause delays in the visa process, and applicants are responsible for any resulting delays.
