Description
To be eligible to submit a Schengen visa application, customers must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a valid passport or travel document.
- Hold a valid UK residence permit. If the applicant holds a short-stay visa for the UK (C-type visa), they must apply for a Schengen visa from their country of residence. However, if there is a valid reason for not applying in their residence country (e.g., no German mission or an urgent situation arises during their stay in the UK, such as a new business trip or serious illness of a relative in Germany), they may apply at any German mission outside their residence country. Please note that written confirmation from a doctor or hospital in Germany is required in the case of a serious illness.
- Apply for a short stay visa for purposes such as tourism, visiting family and friends, attending conferences (including minors), business, or as an EEA/EU family member.
Minors:
Customers who have not yet reached 18 when submitting a Schengen visa application (EEA/EU family member) should note the following information.
In accordance with European legislation aimed at safeguarding the welfare of children, it is crucial to emphasize that minors who fail to provide all the necessary documents may not be granted a Schengen visa.
Documents Required
LIST OF DOCUMENTS FOR EEA/ EU AND SWISS NATIONAL FAMILY MEMBERS
It is highly recommended to submit a comprehensive set of documents per the requirements listed below. This will help avoid any unnecessary delays in the process.
If you are a family member of an EEA/EU or Swiss national, you are entitled to apply for a Schengen visa as a family member of the said national. This means that you will be required to submit fewer documents compared to regular tourists, and you will also be exempt from paying the applicable visa fee. This privilege applies when you are traveling together with your EEA/EU or Swiss national family member.
The following family members are eligible to apply under this category:
– Spouse
– Parent(s) (only if the child is under 18 years old or if the elderly parent is cohabiting with their EEA/EU or Swiss national child, including step parents)
– Child(ren), including stepchild(ren)
– Civil partner
Applicants who are not accompanied by their EEA/EU or Swiss national family members are not eligible to apply as such. Instead, EEA/EU and Swiss national family members must apply for a tourist visa.
However, there are certain exemptions for family members of EEA/EU or Swiss nationals who hold a valid UK Residence permit. These individuals do not require a Schengen visa to enter Germany/Schengen Area, but only under the following conditions:
- They are traveling with or joining their EEA/EU or Swiss national family member in Germany/Schengen Area.
- Their UK Residence permit explicitly states one of the following:
a. Residence Card of a Family Member of an EEA National (endorsed in passport)
b. Permanent Residence Card (endorsed in passport)
c. Residence Card of a Family Member of a Union Citizen (biometric card)
d. Residence Card Permanent Residence (biometric card)
The approval or refusal of a visa is solely at the discretion of the Diplomatic Mission. It is important to be aware that the Diplomatic Mission may require you to submit any missing or additional documents, which could potentially extend the processing time.
It is crucial that all documents provided are recent, no older than one month, and are included with every Schengen visa application.
Applicants must bring and present their original documents and submit photocopies.

Processing Time
Customers are advised to submit their Schengen visa applications up to six months before their intended travel date to the Schengen Area.
Please take note of the following:
The processing time for applications starts only upon the Embassy receiving the required documents.
To ensure a smooth process, applications must be submitted at least 15 calendar days before the intended travel date (as mentioned above) and can be submitted up to six months in advance. Failure to adhere to these deadlines may result in the Embassy deeming your application inadmissible. In such cases, your visa application will not be processed, and your passport will be promptly returned to you.
On average, the visa processing time is 15 calendar days. However, in certain instances where additional scrutiny of the application is necessary and/or when it is referred to the German Immigration Service, this period may be extended up to the requirement.
