Description

This information is relevant for individuals who are traveling to visit family and friends. Additionally, it is important to note the requirements for school pupils and individuals holding UK travel documents.

Regarding school pupils:

It is essential to be aware that children who are traveling to Iceland as part of a school trip, and are citizens of a country that falls under the Schengen visa requirements, must obtain a visa before their trip.

A visa typically grants you the right to stay in the entire Schengen region, which includes countries such as Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. This visa allows you to stay in Iceland for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period and is valid for the entire Schengen region.

It is important to note that visa applications are usually processed within 15 days from the day the Embassy receives them, excluding submission time.
However, in some cases, further inquiry or documentation may be required, which can prolong the processing time. Applicants may also be requested to attend an interview at the Embassy.

Please be aware that a visa does not grant you the right to work in Iceland unless explicitly granted by the Immigration Service.

UK travel documents:

If you hold a refugee travel document (1951 Convention travel document) or a travel document for stateless persons (1954 Convention travel document) and are a national of a country that requires a visa when traveling to the Schengen area, it is necessary to apply for a visa before traveling to Iceland.

The list of documents provided below is not exhaustive, and the customer may be asked to provide additional information or documents if requested by the Mission.

Photo Specification

Please ensure that you provide a recent color portrait of yourself, taken within the last six months, which meets the following requirements:

  1. The photo should be captured against a light background, preferably white or off-white. This will help enhance your facial features and create a clear contrast with the background.
  2. The focus of the photo should be on your face, ensuring high clarity and sharpness. This will enable us to accurately identify and verify your identity.
  3. Your full face should be visible in the photo, without any grinning, sunglasses, hats, or other head coverings. Exceptions can be made if you wear such items due to your ethnicity or religion.
  4. The photo should be printed from a camera print on standard photographic paper. This ensures professional quality and durability of the image.

Application Form

Applicants must diligently fill out the application form as outlined below:

Schengen visa application form

Complete all mandatory fields on the visa application form, which are marked with a red star (*).

Please ensure that all sections of the application form are accurately and comprehensively filled out.

Processing Time

Applicants are welcome to submit their Schengen visa application up to six months prior to their intended travel date to the Schengen Area. It is important to note that the minimum processing time for a visa application is 15 days. Therefore, it is highly recommended that applicants allow sufficient time between their appointment date and travel date for the Mission to process their visa application. Please be aware that delays may occur, and we cannot guarantee the exact return date of the visa application.

For certain nationalities, the visa application requires consultation from the other Schengen countries, which may result in a longer processing time. To avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is crucial that the application is complete, and all submitted documents meet the requirements set by the Mission. Please refer to the “Documents Required” section for specific visa categories.

Applicants should also take into consideration that during peak seasons such as Easter, summer holidays (July and August), and Christmas, appointment slots are quickly filled as the Mission can only process a limited number of visa applications per day. Additionally, please be mindful of Mission closures and holidays, as they may extend the processing time.

Therefore, we strongly recommend the following to all applicants:

  1. Book your appointment as soon as your travel plans are confirmed.
    2. Ensure that your visa application documentation meets the requirements specified by the Mission.
    3. Allow sufficient processing time for the Mission to review your application thoroughly.

Applicants submitting their visa application at our satellite center in Edinburgh should consider adding an additional two days to the minimum processing time. This is because the application will first be dispatched to the London office before being forwarded to the Mission in London the following day.

During the visa application process, the Mission reserves the right to request additional information or documents, as well as invite applicants for an interview. It is important to note that these requests or interviews may potentially lead to delays in the visa process. Applicants are kindly reminded to accept responsibility for any such delays that may occur.
